You finally did it. You purchased your first kayak. You’re ready to strap it to the roof of your car and hit the road, hopefully along side of your Outer Limit Supply MedKit.
But where to go? As you can probably guess, there’s a whole world of canals, rivers, and lakes waiting out there for you to explore. We know you’re probably excited and ready to hit the water, but first we invite you to take a look at our list for the Three Best Destinations for kayaking.
1. Tampa Bay
This tropical oasis is home to wonderful aquariums, museums, and beaches. In addition, Tampa Bay offers a variety of canals and waterways that make for a calm, smooth, kayak day. Check out the canals in and around the Hillsborough River for a fun filled day of fun in the sun. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Florida’s unique wildlife like dolphins, manatees, and ospreys.
2. Chesapeake Bay
As the largest estuary in the United States, it’s no surprise that thousands of people flock here every summer with a kayak in tow. The beautiful yet calm waters of the Chesapeake Bay offer beautiful 360 degree vistas. This bay is a great option for first time kayakers looking for a fun way to spend a leisurely weekend.
3. Colorado River
If you’re looking for a more challenging day of kayaking, look no further than the majestic Colorado River. This river runs through seven states and alternates between smooth flowing currents, to white water rapids. This river is definitely for the more experienced kayaker, but if you feel like your skills are a little more advanced, then you can’t go wrong with this powerful and beautiful wonder of nature.
These bodies of water offer breathtaking yet varied experiences that you’ll want to return to again and again. As always, be sure to stay safe above all else.
